Kaiso is a transcriptional represor that belongs to POZ-zinc finger family of transcription factors implicated in development and cancer. It binds to specific methylated CpG dinucleotides in the consensus sequence 5'-CGCG-3' and it also binds to non-methylated consensus sequence 5'-CTGCNA-3'. It recruits the N-CoR repressor complex to promote histone deacetylation and the formation of represive chromatin structures in taget gene promoters.
