Its genoma comprises a bisegmented double-stranded RNA, the segment B encodes VP1 and the segment A yields a polyprotein, pVP2-VP4-VP3 and a small protein (VP5) dispensable for viral replication. The polyprotein is autocatalytically cleaved by the endoprotease VP4 to release the structural proteins VP3 and pVP2. VP3 is an internal protein that interacts with both VP1 and dsRNA in a mutually independent mannner.
