GLRaV-1 belongs to the genus Ampelovirus of the family Closteroviridae. Its genome consists of a single-stranded positive-sense RNA and is encapsidated in filamentous particles containing a 35 kDa coat protein. GLRaV-1 is transmitted by vegetative propagation, grafting, scale insect, and mealybugs.
